STRONGER AND SHARPER: HYPERLAB WANTS TO CHANGE HOW INDIA LOOKS AT FITNESS

Ahmedabad-based Hyperlab has created a unique device called Helios, which uses a laser pointer to help athletes, and fitness enthusiasts measure strength, reflexes, and stamina.

When 23-year-old Hitarth Parikh was asked to come up with a unique project proposal for his internship at an Ahmedabad-based design studio in 2021, he knew he wanted to work on something in the fitness venue. Parikh, a professional product designer, grew up participating in various sports till he was injured a few years ago. While numerous exercise equipment and supplies, such as treadmills and weight machines, are available in the Indian market today, Parikh claims that not all of them assist athletes in measuring finer qualities such as agility, reaction, and stamina.

Parikh then teamed up with Chahil Patel—an Ahmedabad-based technology professional–to build Hyperlab and develop its first flagship product Helios. Co-founder Patel now heads research and development at the startup. “While these machines could help develop strength, an advanced device is needed to improve agility, stamina, and reflexes. It was a clear opportunity waiting to be tapped,” Parikh tells YourStory. While numerous exercise equipment and supplies, such as treadmills and weight machines, are available in the Indian market today, Parikh claims that not all of them assist athletes in measuring finer qualities such as agility, reaction, and stamina.

By the end of 2024, Parikh and Patel’s Hyperlab expect to have sold at least 3,000 devices. According to Parikh, the 15-member team is also conducting research to produce three unique gadgets for swimming, football, and cricket, each with its own set of measurements. “Once we can build our own product line, our basis will be solid. “Building the portfolio will become easier thereafter,” he jokes.

While three-year-old Hyperlab is currently bootstrapped, the team hopes to start fundraising talks in March to expand the product line, manufacturing capabilities, and technical expertise.
